Trento & Rovereto

Where culture reigns

Trento boasts the unique charm of an alpine Renaissance city, where history means art and the Italian and mid-European cultures join together. Also known as the City of the Council (1545 - 1563), its monuments have preserved all the heritage of these two cultures over the centuries. Among all the towns in the Alps, it is unique in terms of its elegant Renaissance layout, enhanced by recent renovation works.
Worth a visit are the “Castel del Buonconsiglio” (residence of the Prince Bishops of Trento for centuries), the Cathedral and its wonderful square with the Neptune fountain, the frescoed houses and the churches of the Council, the museums and exhibitions that make this city an important cultural attraction.
Throughout the year, visitors can take advantage of its rich historical and artistic heritage, which can be fully appreciated while walking in the centre, going shopping or visiting the local museums: Museum of the “Castello del Buonconsiglio”, MART Museum at Palazzo delle Albere, MUSE (Science Museum) and Caproni Museum dedicated to aviation.
Trento was awarded the title of “Alpine City” in 2004. Not to be missed is the magical atmosphere during the renowned Christmas market that takes place in Piazza Fiera every year.

Rovereto lies halfway between Riva del Garda and Trento. It is suspended between avant-garde and tradition and awaits you to delve into historical and contemporary culture, with the MART Museum and the Depero Futurist Art House, the Historical Italian War Museum and the “Campana dei Caduti” (Bell of the Fallen). It is a journey back in time, starting out from the present in search of the roots of the western civilisation.
The heart of the historical centre is like an open-air museum of Medieval and Venetian history: the adjacent districts bear witness to the cultural heritage of the Enlightenment and the economic wealth brought about by the silk industry.
